Benefits of Heat Pump and Low Carbon Heating
Low cost heating, low carbon emmisions, no more oil or gas heating
The great thing about low carbon solutions is that you not only enjoy the benefits but so does the environment around us. Let's look at the reasons for choosing low carbon heating.
Cost
We all know how sharply oil and gas prices have risen - the press is full of stories about escalating fuel costs. There is no reason to believe that these already high prices will not continue to go up in the future. The problem with conventional heating systems is that they are simply inefficient. Just look at these figures:
£100 spent on oil or gas with a conventional heater will only give you around £55-£65 worth of heat and hot water.
With a heat pump, for example, spending £100 on electricity you can expect £300-£500 worth of heat and hot water.
Security of supply
At the same time that the global demand and competition for energy is increasing, we are becoming increasingly reliant on imported supplies of oil and gas. Already parts of Europe have been virtually held to ransom over gas supplies. The UK's exposure to these international markets brings obvious potential risks of inconsistent supply. These will be caused by market, political and logistical reasons. Basically, supply is totally out of our control. By moving to low carbon heating solutions you will be protecting you and your family against these future problems.
Environmental considerations
Not a day goes by without the climate change debate raging. It's probably the greatest challenge today's society faces. Despite decades of research many important issues remain uncertain. However, much has been established beyond reasonable doubt.
The basic mechanics of climate change are well understood - the world is warming with much of it due to human emissions of greenhouse gases. And these changes are set to accelerate in the future, bringing many and varied impacts around the world.
For example, carbon dioxide emissions from the housing sector accounts for 27% of the UK's carbon footprint. (Source: The Carbon Trust) Yet if a heat pump is supplied with electricity from a renewable tariff, there are no emissions. It's clear where the responsible solution lies.
