TEESSIDE CHARITY AND DARLINGTON FIRM LINK UP -- GREEN INSIDE AND OUT!
Work is due to begin this week on reducing the carbon footprint of a charity, which is based on five-and-a-half acres of former farmland in Norton, on the outskirts of Stockton.
The first phase of work sees Daisy Chain installing two air source heat pumps that will provide all the heat needed to warm the new Day Centre. If further bids for grants are successful the charity will also seek to install two solar hot water panels on the roof of the new Day Centre, and a rainwater collection system. As Project Manager Matt Simpson explained, the idea is to become more environmentally friendly and save money at the same time:
“The high cost of providing plenty of warmth and light for our families, and loads of fresh water for our animals, is a big drain on resources. So when we looked into ways of cutting our bills we came upon the idea of using heat pumps. We realised right away that they would help us save money while providing us with all the heat we need, and reduce our carbon footprint. We also realised that if we went to a company which specialises in this field it might be able to provide us with further services like the rainwater collection system.”
The company Daisy Chain turned to was Natural Warmth of Darlington. Steve Heslop is the Managing Director:
“Our approach was just the same as it would be to any project – can the systems we install do the job and save the client money? Calf Fallow Farm, and the new Day Centre there, were perfect for what we do; the heat pumps should have paid for themselves in terms of savings within the next six or seven years. Also, the rainwater collection system would ensure a plentiful supply of water for the animals and for the extensive grounds and gardens.”
By the time the weeklong installation is completed it will launch the charity into a whole new world of cash savings and environmentally friendly energy.
Furthermore, as part of Natural Warmth’s company policy, a number of trees will be planted to offset the carbon generated during the installation process.
