EXTRA ‘NATURAL WARMTH’ FOR CHARITY’S NEW DAY CENTRE
Just as the cold snap began to bite in the run up to Christmas there was some timely good news for the families who use the services of the Norton-based charity Daisy Chain.
The new Day Centre had been pretty much completed and ready for use – but it was too cold to be pressed into service.
Work had begun on installing two air source heat pumps, which will provide a low carbon heating solution for the big new facility, then the cold front swept in.
Engineers from Darlington-based green energy company ‘Natural Warmth’, working to complete the installation, re-doubled their efforts and managed to commission it for use just ahead of the first icy blast – just as the families headed off for their Christmas holidays! But it means they are assured of a warm welcome on their return.
“We were working through some of the worst weather so far this winter with sub-zero temperatures on most days,” said Steve Heslop, Managing Director of Natural Warmth. “But the lads did well to get the system up and running in pretty short order. This is just the first stage in a series of developments at Calf Fallow Farm to help them reduce their power bills and their carbon footprint at the same time.”
For the Daisy Chain Project Manager, Matt Simpson, it was another step along a long road: “The Day Centre is something we have dreamt about and planned for years, it brings another dimension to the services we can offer here,” he said. “Now to know that when the families come back we can start to make the most of it feels like yet another hurdle has been jumped…mind you there are plenty more to come, I’m sure.”
